Already in 2007 Gebr. Otto decided to implement a product line in 100% Fairtrade and organic cotton and a certification according to the FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organisation) standards. The principles of this certification are the guidelines of the ILO (International Labor Organisation) and the social standards of the SA8000 (Social Assessment) which look for improvements in labour living conditions as well as for the social fairness in a globalised world.
The Fairtrade label ensures that the farmers are getting a fair and stable price for their cotton regardless of the world market prices. In this way production costs can be covered and the living and labour conditions are significantly improved. Furthermore a Fairtrade premium is being paid through FLO which is targeted at financing social projects. Fairtrade is promoting a sustainable developing process in the long term and eco-friendly cultivation and processing methods.
Regular controls by FLO-CERT guarantee the adherence of the international standards.
To be entitled to use the Fairtrade logo the whole supply chain must be certified.
