Global issues like ecology, climate protection and the use of renewable resources are getting more and more into the focus of the consumer. The aim of our project recot²® is to reduce the consumption of water and pesticides by using recycled cotton. Selected cotton waste from spinning, doubling and weaving is processed into a high quality yarn. From an ecological viewpoint a blend of 25% recycled cotton and 75% virgin organic cotton means a global water saving of 5,000 litres per 1 kilogram of yarn.
The spinning technique of recycled cotton recot²® was supported within the framework of the environmental technology of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt DBU. In order to record the energy used in recot²® the University of Ulm has prepared an eco study according to DIN ISO 14040.
